Wash Baby Clothing: What to do and don't do, wash the baby clothes

wash baby clothes

Having clean and perfumed cloths is a necessity that if you have a little baby increases immeasurably. It will often happen that you will end up with rompers or accessories dirty with food, milk or spilled, so it is important to know the correct way to wash newborn clothes ensuring maximum hygiene and without ruining the garments.

Where to start? Every item of newborn clothing given and/or bought must be carefully washed before the baby wears it. All new garments, or those handed down from friends and relatives must be washed (this rule also applies to adults). The reasons are different:

  • some manufacturers add substances that improve the appearance of the dress, but which in contact with the skin can cause irritation or allergies;
  • the garments pass from one place to another, between factory and shop, and then exposed to potential germs. The same goes for their state of preservation, which is not known before arriving at the store;
  • They may contain dust;

The skin of the newborn, especially in the first days of life, is extremely delicate. So you have to be very careful what we make them wear is so delicate that some fabrics and labels, could hurt them with a simple touch. We want to leave you some tips and guidelines for washing baby clothes, from modes to detergents:

  • Use specific detergents for newborn clothing. Common detergents contain chemical additives that are not compatible with the delicate skin of children. The risk of creating dermatitis and irritation may be high.
  • Please follow the instructions on the labels, each garment is different from the material to how it absorbs dirt, so the washing methods will be different; on the labels you will find washing instructions, respecting them is important, because they are the result of careful tests carried out on individual garments.
  • As for the labels, once studied, cut them from the garment because they could scratch the baby or stain the fabric. If you are a beginner, you can keep the labels for the main materials used in your baby's outfit.
  • If you want to machine wash, choose the delicate programme with a low spin speed, or select the hand wash programme.
  • Make sure that the cloths are rinsed perfectly. They must not contain any traces of soap.

Often contact us for advice on how to wash two garments in particular: chenille and cotton interlock.

The newborn chenille garments are the most difficult to treat due to the particularity of the fabric. The ideal washing method is by hand, leaving the onesuit soaking in cold water and inside out; the harsh stains that are often found on the feet, sleeves and necklace should be treated with a delicate and specific soap for babies. Don't rub the whole outfit, because the chenille is very delicate and could be ruined.

If you don't have time, you can choose the washing machine by selecting the hand washing program, always with care when reducing the spin speed and using detergents. We strongly recommend the hand wash and basin.

The newborn cotton interlock sleepsuits can be machine washed at a low temperature of no more than 40° and with a centrifuge up to 700 turns, no more. It is advisable to pre-treat the stains on each type of sleepsuit: difficult dirt can be removed by hand with a Marseille soap and then proceed with the washing in the washing machine.

Washing baby clothes: things not to do

There are some precautions you need to follow to wash your newborn's clothing properly.

About detergents: Do not use stain removers or bleaches. To remove the machines, try soaking dirty clothes in warm water for 15 minutes, work the stain by rubbing it off and rinse.

We recommend not using bleach and fabric softener either. It is best to use mild, organic detergents so as to avoid possible allergic reactions.

Also important is the place where you keep the newborn rompers that have become dirty. LInfant's clothing should be placed in a different basket from the dirty clothes of adults. and consequently washed separately. Mixing the baby's clothes with those of other family members means running the risk of exposing the child to dermatitis or similar pathologies.

Theuse of bleach is also not recommended.

How to wash baby clothes: some advice

  • If you have pets in the house put baby clothes in a place that can't be reached for them and remember to keep drawers and wardrobes tightly closed. Animal hair, such as cat hair, can irritate the newborn baby's skin and cause allergies.
  • If you use cloth diapers, separate them from the rest of the laundry and use little detergent. Once you've finished washing, make sure there's no more detergent residue, because once in contact with the baby's skin it could irritate the delicate skin in the genital area. We recommend that you do an extra rinse to make sure that all the detergent has been removed. Remember that even with this type of newborn clothing you should not use bleach, fabric softener and dryer.
