New Highway Code for pregnant women and women with babies
The new text on the Highway Code is finally ready and has been presented to all parliamentary groups. In May it should arrive at the Montecitorio Hall, but in the meantime the Transport Commission should be receiving the government's instructions contained in the delegated law.
The new agreement
Both the League and the 5 Star Movement agree on increasing sanctions. This is a serious exacerbation, first of all, for those who are caught driving a car using "smartphones, laptops, notebooks, tablets and similar devices that even temporarily lead to the removal of their hands from the steering wheel". It therefore goes from fines from 161 to 467 euros to fines from 422 to a maximum of 1,697 euros with suspension of the driving license from 7 days to a maximum of 2 months.
Moreover, if in the following 2 years the offender repeats the same infringement it "is subject to the administrative sanction of the payment of a sum from 644 to 2,588 euros, to the accessory administrative sanction of the suspension of the driving license from 1 to 3 months" and to the reduction of the driving license points that goes from 5 to 10 points.
However, the new Highway Code provides for some major innovations, especially with regard to the pink parking lot. That is, free pink parking for pregnant women and for those who take by car newborns up to 1 year of age. In practice, the proposed law therefore consists of strengthening active policies to support and protect motherhood and families, offering a tool, such as reserved parking, not only symbolic, but also concrete, to reduce the difficulties associated with the movement of daily life to parents of newborns and also taking into account the fact that women often play the dual role of mothers and workers.
