Coughs, otitis and flu: how to prevent them in three steps

Flu, cough, and otitis. The first months of the year are the most critical months for the influences, which force one in four children to bed. A diet based on fruit and vegetables is the solution to enjoy the best of the winter period, but it is not enough. It is necessary to take certain precautions for the coldest days of the year.

The immune system, according to experts, grows with the baby and it is absolutely normal that in the first years it gets sick a little more. In order to limit this, it is therefore necessary to follow precise rules. Let's see which ones:

  • Wash your hands often;
  • Air the rooms;
  • Prevent the newborn from breathing passive smoke;
  • Wash your nose at least twice a day with physiological water.

In case of a virus, don't worry. The flu virus generally lasts for a week and not having a fever anymore does not mean that the infection has completely passed.

Not taking into account convalescence times favours contagion and makes the newborn more vulnerable and predisposed to other bacteria. It is estimated that one in four children falls ill more easily, which means that they experience more than 6 respiratory infections per year. For this very reason, it is convenient to reduce the number of hours the community attends. Vitamin D is also important. It has an immunostimulating effect and can be a valuable supplement especially in the winter months when you are less exposed to the sun. Also, in some circumstances the doctor may consider the use of immunomodulants, substances that promote innate immunity and increase the child's defenses.
